I did an Alaska trip in a 37 foot Class-A Mortor Home with a tow car. On the way back, I really wanted to drive to Dawson City from central Alaska. We planned on spending the night in Chicken, AK and then drive the next day into Dawson City. This was in August of 2016. The road from Tok to... More

I'm over a year late posting this but thought I should share this info. We travelled the highway in late June 2015 with an older not too airtight trailer. Very dusty. Glad we purchased a shop vac in Dawson. Needed this after our trip up the Dempster. No driver's door window. It was smashed out on the Dempster. Three more... More

we first drove top of the world 'highway' in a rental car 2 years ago, this time we returned to drive the DEMPSTER, so added two more turns on top of the world to get there. we were white knuckled the first time around, this time with experience and a camper mounted on a year old ford xlt super duty... We traveled this in mid August 2016. The Canada side of Top of the World was beautiful and for a gravel road was well maintained. On the other hand once you pass through U.S. Customs you are on a paved road. Wow. Oh, oops. The Government of Alaska forgot to tell you that the pavement only lasts about 12 miles.... More

The Top of The World Highway is a rough, remote and somewhat monotonous stretch in Alaska, except for the placer miners after Chicken. The stretch in Canada's Yukon Territory is a lot more scenic. There's even several miles of fine pavement by the Border, but that doesn't last. Best of all is that it ends with an exciting ferry ride... More

We drove the highway in our 24 foot Born Free motorhome the road is mainly gravel, it is narrow with steep The greatness of a leader is measure by the accomplishment of the led. and few guard rails. It took us all day to drive to the Dawson City ferry, the road is rough, assistance is not available and the... More

This summer our motorcycle trip took us from Vancouver, BC to Fairbanks, Alaska. We drove first to Dawson City. Pity the weather was very bad...only rain. On the internet we checked the road from Dawson City to Tok, Alaska. It was written that there is only a 40km part after the border to Chicken which is not paved...what a mistake.... More

Driving the Taylor Hwy. is not for the faint of heart. Firstly the term ‘highway’ is misleading; it is ‘paved’ from Tok to Chicken … but by ‘paved’ I mean a roller coaster ride up and down paved patches interspersed with gravel, potholes, and crazy frost heaves. Luckily there’s not much in the way of scenery along the way as... More

Really you are the top of everything. We took our Toyota Prius, I felt sorry for the car, some section loose gravel and dusty. But have to do it once, worth it, not again. Take lot of pictures so don't have to. One the top US border population 3, funny. After Chicken road gets worse, lot worse. Took us 6... More

The entire time, the Carpenters song played in my head. The view is gorgeous! The roads, however, are primitive. Some areas are better than others. The worst part would be the rest areas; very few and looks like something you'll see from the slums of SE and South Asia. The Alaska part is nicer than the Yukon Territory side. Advice... More
