I'm a pilot, and have flown many trips to the Destin area over the years. Much of the Emerald Coast has become overdeveloped and overcrowded over the years--yes, the beaches are some of the best in the world, but who wants to share them with hundreds of thousands of other people? When we can't stand the crowds any more, we... More

Took this road with the family basically from Ocala all the way to Destin and had a great time. There are times when there's not much to see, but the times when it opens up is pretty amazing. You will certainly take more time on this one so be ready but I felt it was worth it!

We drove this higway from Crystal Springs to Navarre and it was beautiful! It's through tall pine forests and right next to some gorgeous beaches. It makes for a cruisey interesting drive that is not just a "get me there" highway. Especially beautiful coming into Panama City Beach at sunset!

We drove the Big Bend Scenic Byway (US Hwy 98) from Tallahassee to Apalachicola. It was a mostly two-lane road through pine forest, small towns and coastal villages, and miles of unspoiled seashore. There was very little traffic and I'm so glad we decided to take the extra time to drive this scenic route instead of the interstate. We stopped... More

Wow! Having vacationed in San Destin, FL a few years ago, we were curious about what we'd find if we followed the coast further east. This trip we had a chance to find out. What a treat! Along the coast we found everything from quiet fishing villages to a college in Port St. Joe. Many miles along the route were... More

Coming east from Panama City you drive through Tyndall AFB. Do not speed since it is a federal facility your ticket will land you in federal court.The. drive from Tyndall to Mexico Beach is well manicured with huge pine trees lining both sides of the road. If you have the time take a right turn down Research Road to a... More

Bought a book from Barnes & Noble about driving the US via the Byways (authored by National Geographic) US98 was one & after seeking a little more info via the web off we went. We found scenic vistas, cute diners & lovely towns & people. Unfortunately we caught some howling winds & rain so didn't get the chance to have... More

Recently I decided to drive to the Panhandle of FL as I've lived in Fl for over 20 years and never have been there. Driving there I was taking I-75 north from Tampa with all it's exits of fast food and gas station convenience stores (then very long boring nothingness of 10 west, then pokey 231 south) I arrived where...
