I visited the park twice in one weekend and I was fascinated by it. I only hiked and peeked into many of the caves because I didn't have a change of clothes and a flashlight. I especially enjoyed my twilight hikes - the park was eerily peaceful and the bats were out. Free admission and parking. About 6 miles of... More

I can't believe I lived in Madison, WI for years and never took a trip down here. The caves are great. There are about a dozen small caves. Everything is self guided. No entrance fee. Lots of stairs. If you want to explore the smaller caves, bring a flashlight and some shoes you can get wet. Some you will have... More

2nd time here these caves are great. They actually have lighting now so you can explore even deeper. The park is very nice and the hike was a good exercise for most people.

This place is just literally awesome! Some of the most beautiful scenery in Iowa. Lots of great hiking trails. It should be listed in Maquoketa instead of Iowa and as the #1 thing to do. If you love caves or hiking or beautiful scenery, just go!

I was incredibly amazed by the caves. My kids really enjoyed it ages 9 and 6. Now the facility needs some upgrades we camped here for 3 days, and the showers and bathrooms need some upgrades.

Our family (3 boys ages 10, 8, and 3) spent a fun afternoon here, we only had 2 hours to explore, but could have easily spent another hour or two exploring.

We spent one night in the campground. The park is beautiful, but the bathrooms were awful. Unfortunately people visiting the caves use the campground bathroom to wash up, leaving it very dirty and without hot water. We had to wait 1 1/2 hours for an empty shower stall. Some of the toilets were not flushing appropriately and the showers needed... More

I took my 3 girls - 9, 7 and 4 - to MCSP and we spent a fantastic morning exploring the caves. We got there early enough that there were only 2 or 3 other cars there so it was pretty quiet. By the time we left it was no longer so quiet. The caves and trails are really, really... More

We camped here before attending a show at Codfish Hollow. It was great! Quiet campground with nice facilities. The caves are of course the prize of this park. The largest cave has a nice cement path and the others are fairly easy to access. What a gem hidden within the state of Iowa!!!! Would be an excellent day trip!
