Visit The Iowa Wine Trail by traversing the Iowa Upper Mississippi River Valley Viticulture Areas of Lisbon, Baldwin, Anamosa, Fredricksburg, Bankston, Marquette, West Branch, Decorah and Clinton. Sample well-crafted wines and ciders in the comfort of excellent and diverse tasting rooms among our heritage farms and vineyards, hilltop chateau, nestled river village, and Italian bistro. Wineries can be visited almost daily and semi-annual Special Events shouldn't be missed. At each site a wine maker is likely nearby to answer questions about growing wine using the region's special varietals. Visitors can view operations, enjoy the grounds, and sample award winning wines and sparkling ciders carrying that special Iowa taste. Enjoy the region's designated scenic byways, alpine hills, and cold water streams full of trout. This exquisite hill country was spared recent glaciers thus leaving soils, slopes, caves and aquifers well-suited for irrigation, drainage, circulation, and sun to produce the best grapes. The area is adorned with landscapes as selected by Artist of the Heartland, Grant Wood. We know you would enjoy the hospitality of the trail's bed and breakfast partners, so consider staying the weekend.

Fun time, great people, beautiful scenic drives, along with some interesting wines to try. Love the "Pampered Pup" wine made in Fredricksburg. Highly recommend spending a weekend exploring and wine tasting.

The wineries are all very distinctive with interesting tasting room staff. I sampled many fine wines that are made from their Upper Mississippi River Valley viticulture area. It would be great to attend the spring wine trail event held 28 and 29 April, 2012. All...More
