Hi From Chicago, from I-94 East, exit at New Buffalo, 239 / Harbor Country Dr. going North. Becomes S Whittaker St.
At the traffic light in town turn right, E Buffalo St / US 12 East. At the next traffic light, US 12 continues to the right. Do not turn, but continue straight ahead on Red Arrow Highway.
Follow Red Arrow Highway going North along Lake Michigan. There are numerous places along the way where one can stop for a bite to eat, antique shops, art shops, a few public beach areas (although beware of signs which tell you the beach is NOT open to the public) and many other types of shops along the way.. Just East of Red Arrow Highway at Sawyer, great eateries and Garden shop (Unlike any you have ever seen)
Continue North on Red Arrow. Warren Dunes State Park is a "Must see" IF there is parking avail.
A great beach (Waco Beach) just west of Bridgman, turn at the traffic light.
Going North, becomes Lakeshore Dr,There are 2 places to pull off the road, park and look out over the Lake. Then it becomes Main St. You come to St Joseph, best view of Lake Michigan AND the St Joe river, from up on the bluff. You could easily spend all day in St Joe,
continue north crossing the draw bridges to M-63. Just keep going North. Go in and thru South Haven. Stay off of major highway.
Numerous resort towns NEAR Lake Michigan but only a few such as St Joe and South Haven are ON the Lake. If you like Dunes continue north to Sleeping Bear Dunes.
I hope this helps!
