The guide book made this sound quite interesting, but we weren't really sure what to expect. The self guided tour takes you through the forest (with actually normal wooden trees) and highlights lots of pieces of petrified wood which were trapped in a flood thousands...More

This is an amazing place, worth the drive. Staff are friendly and well-informed, and learning about how nature created it is most surprising! Huge gift shop with many reasonably priced treasures. ONLY petrified forest east of the Mississippi.
