The museum has some nice things on display. The gift shop is expensive. The trail has a several pieces of dull, ugly petrified wood. Don't get me wrong, it's still cool. Just not compared to places out west.

Okay so we went as a large extended family trip. So we had 4 adults, a teen, an 8 year old & 2 4 year olds. I’m not sure the 3 younger kids had fun walking and looking at the woods, but really didn’t care...More

This place has quite a few specimen of petrified wood in its natural element. The pamphlet does a good job in explaining the geology as well as how human exploitation of the land led to the erosion which makes the petrified wood apparent. The museum...More

You need to go here. The trail is pretty cool, with a brochure to guide you along the stops to see both living and petrified trees. The highlight for me was the museum. I've gone to a lot of natural history museums, and I can...More

My first complaint is with the admission prices: $7/adult and $6/child Then ADD to that $4/each to "pan" for "gems" The "trail" is about 1/8 of a mile and should be free There is a exhibit room of sorts with various stones/gems. The displays aren't...More

They offer cheap camping. A brocure of information to use throughout the forest, a museum of fossiles, rocks and gems and a gift shop of some amazing pieces! A must see!

A good little museum covers the petrifaction process, provides a host of minerals and gems, and a short walk around the forest itself offers a rare glimpse into the wonders of nature. About an hour minimum to enjoy the hike. Bring a bottle of water...More

For starters, don't expect a Smithsonian grade Museum here. However, don't let that affect your decision to come. If you have a little time to kill on the road, this is an interesting find. I did not find as interesting as most that reviewed this...More

This is indeed a hidden gem. Although it is privately owned the entrance price is very reasonable and the items in the gift shop are good quality and very reasonably priced. The walk through the forest is simply wonderful and the free guidebook is very...More
