Found this house due to an Internet search on Mississippi Historic homes. Called to check on hours and spoke to a wonderful docent. Told her we were on the road coming to Merrehope for a visit. She planned on staying late to accommodate our group of 6 Ladies. Our docent was friendly, full of information, and historic tidbits. Merrehope was... More

This beautiful antebellum home is very well worth a visit. It is beautifully furnished and presented by outstanding tour guides. The original house started as a humble house that was continually added onto over the years. The antebellum beauty of this house is unusual and very beautiful. The architecture inside and out are beautiful. The gardens here are not as... More

My Husband and I were on our way back to Texas and taking an extra day so we could stop and see some of the places we missed on our way to Myrtle Beach. When we stopped at the Mississippi Visitor Center the man there told us about this site. The Visitor Center was amazing and the people working there... More

I'm not local, but I've lived in Meridian for 3 years and have helped set up displays at Merrehope during the holiday season. Beautiful home and wonderful folks who help preserve it, but in a very, very dangerous part of town. It's a shame because it really is lovely and the history is very interesting. However, I would only go... More

This home is advertised as one of two homes that was not destroyed when Meridian was burned by the Union during the Civil War. Actually, only the original 3-room cottage was standing at that time, so the mansion you see now is not Antebellum. The home is run by the Meridian Restoration Foundation and I am sure it is quite... We stopped here on our way through Mississippi, and were the only visitors on that rainy day. The woman who took us through and gave us the details of the mansion, and a mansion being restored behind the Merrihope Mansion, was absolutely chock full of interesting information, and knew every detail of the home. It played some small part in... More

This is a lovely old mansion that started out as a small cottage and ended up being a beautiful home of the 1900's. It is still being restored by the Meridian Restoration foundation. It has had several owners over the years. Our docent said it is decorated for Christmas and the hallway still had a tree on display. Next to... More

The house is a gem, but the homes in the area are rough. The ladies that work in the home really know their history. It is worth seeing, but make sure you lock you car doors .

This is the home where Sherman stayed during the Civil War while he and his troops were destroying Meridian. I've been to the house many times. It is beautiful. I even stayed there overnight for a paranormal investigation in October of 2010. If you are a history buff or a fan of beautiful architecture, you will enjoy a visit here.... More

Those who like house tours should enjoy this 2-for1 deal. Docents were excellent, providing color commentary to the house, that included (for us) an informative discussion about Mississippi history from the Civil War to Civil rights. Tour groups were small and photos inside were allowed and encouraged. This is a 'must-do' if passing through Meridian. At Christmas they present their... More
