I highly recommend traveling this highway for the scenery. You do need to be comfortable with navigating a narrow road and in some places, one lane tunnels. Very cool views and there are a few places to pull over for photos.

Amazing drive and stunning views! Not a drive for the faint of heart. I had an amazing time driving this scenic route and the only thing that would have been better if I was on a motorcycle. Defiantly something you should want to experience.

Needles Highway had some incredible views and sights. There was a hike to the Cathedral Spires that was pretty cool. The rock formations are quite interesting and beautiful and the tunnels are pretty cool, too! Don't miss it if you are in the area!

Where else can you see the beautiful green forests, imposing granite spires and tunnels, only to be greeted with a view of Mount Rushmore perfectly framed in the tunnel exit? A not-to-be-missed experience.

This drive is not for the fearful! My husband drove and there is no way I could have made it through the thinnest tunnel. Yes there are tunnels cut thru the rock and I was holding my breath! But the view is amazing, there are...More

The scenery and the plentiful animals make you forget how hard it was to build the road through and the wonderful Pig Tail Bridges! South Dakota does a fantastic job on their State Parks and this is no exception! Everything is beautifully maintained so that...More

It is incredible to see and go through these tunnels surrounded by rock. Go early in the morning to beat the crowds. The roads are narrow and tunnels are on car at a time. The tunnels are only about 8’ so you don’t want to...More

We were returning to Custer from Spearfish Canyon drive, decide to detour to take this in, so glad we did, can see how it gets its name (stupendous rock formations), dozens of photo opportunities, narrow roads, and even narrower tunnels. A wonderful finish to the...More
