I will start by saying this is a State Park, so associated with that is lots of people and short amount of staff to facilitate check in and so on. With that being said, the hiking trails are great. Some more challenging than others but...More

As stated on their website, this park will turn visitors away if they have reached capacity. We arrived at the park around 10:30 AM on a Friday and were admitted. We eagerly tackled the "Old Baldy" Trail for the amazing view at the top. It...More

I have visited many Texas state parks, but was absolutely blown away by this one. They have challenging hikes that reward you with gorgeous views of the hill country and, of course, the Frio River. As always, do your research beforehand. If it's summer, their...More

This is our second year in a row going to Garner. Last year we went the day after 4th of July and took us about an hour to get checked in. We stayed in New Garner because that was all that was available. This year...More

This State Park is one of our favorites!!! Our kids love going to the nightly dance and of course the river is beautiful!! The closest town is Concan and we enjoy its small town vibe. Cute shopping and winery not too far from the park.

Texas has many wonderful State Parks, and we’ve visited many of them. We had heard great things about Garner SP, so when we had the opportunity, we went there. We did not experience the long check-in process that many have because we went before school...More

I had never been denied entrance to a state park before. But to our surprise, we arrived at about noon to spend a couple of hours at the park, and were advised that they were closed. I asked if they reopened spots as day use...More

This is one of the best parks I've ever visited! We visited during Easter Break with two families and loads of kids! We hiked the trails, which were very well labeled, made a summit, swam in the river, saw HUGE rabbits and baby deer, and...More

This was our first trip to Garner, even though I grew up in Texas. We had a fantastic time during our stay. However, somehow I missed the word that you wait for 3+ hours to get in. We made a reservation 10 months in advance,...More

I'm so excited for you! The best spots in Oakmont are sites #39-42 (they face the river) and #17-21. My favorite part of the whole camp is in Rio Frio Campground. It's got the best part of the river! Bring some floatable... More
