I love Garner State Park. The hiking there is great. The trails are beautiful and fairly well marked. The scenery can't be beaten. Parking is plentiful and easy. I went for a day of hiking, but there are a lot of amenities, such as good bathrooms and food for sale. However, if you're looking for a quiet state park, this... More

We traveled via RV to this park based on a recommendation of a friend. The setting is absolutely lovely and the Park is very well maintained. The campground had miniature golf, big areas to throw a football around, and great trails, and a lovely & clean river!. We hiked to the top of the hill and had beautiful scenery. The... More

The location is beautiful, but the human impact (75 years of summertime dirtbags trashing up the place) has placed Garner at my least favorite state park. Over the years TPW has kinda thrown it's hands up and given into accommodating the masses, and turned it into Natures Schlitterbahn. If you are an actual nature lover, this place will surely add... We camped for two nights at this state park in tents with 2 kids. Plenty of things to do to keep them occupied. We went hiking up old baldy and around the rim then down old bird trail. Challenging hike with kids!!!. All in all a good family outing that was cut a little short by weather but that's camping.

We came in about 11:30 am on Saturday in late March. There was a wait to get in with a long line of cars ahead. We were car #117 and they told us they were only letting in 175 cars. I guess these were visitors that didn't have camping reservations. So - get there early if you are going or... More

We had a wonderful day trip to Garner State Park, and a lot of other people had the same idea. The line to get in took 1 hour 20 minutes when we arrived at 11 am on Friday of spring break. Anyway, we survived that line and spent the rest of the afternoon swimming and hiking. That water felt so... More

Beautiful scenery surrounded by nature with lots of natural habitat that is open for you to enjoy. Used my new Canon T6 Rebel and was able to capture some amazing photos of the nature that will not go unseen. Next to the Frio River with high elevations to enjoy with a loved one for a VERY romantic get away. A... More

I camped for one night in a screened shelter in November. If it weren't for the really cold temps, the trip would have been perfect. Since we can't control the weather, I guess that means the trip was pretty perfect. We hiked up Old Baldy with two kids (ages 9 and 5). They did great. It was a challenging hike,... More

While the campgrounds are beautiful, the facilities were dirty and the staff were rude. We were parked "incorrectly" at our site, and a man came up to us and got in our faces about it. He was definitely not "Texas friendly" and he is a bad representative of the park system. All he had to do is ask us to... More
