If you're going to be touring the National Parks of Utah. You have to stop at Grand Staircase NM. You will not be disappointed. You cannot take you eyes off of it. The colors of the rocks add to the beauty. No need to hurry, slow down, take your time and soak it all in.

We made a long day trip from Las Vegas to drive through the monument. We drove up to the north side and went into the monument from scenic highway 12. We then drove through the monument to the south entrance via a narrow dirt road. While a 4 wheel drive vehicle is highly recommended, it is not absolutely required if... More

Grand Staircase has to be done by driving but other people do the hike if you want to see the waterfalls up close. I recommend that you stop by the visitor center and ask for information. The staff at the Visitor Center are knowledgeable and will recommend the points of interest. If you'll do the scenic drive, make sure you... More

From a bit of research and by looking at some pictures, we had a different idea of this place compare to what, in the end, we saw. We end up driving through this monumental place, with plenty of view points to stop and enjoy the panorama but nothing magnificent as we expected. The only place we've actually stopped was a... Although I only saw the enormous Grand Staircase Escalante NM fro the road, I highly recommend a drive from Bryce NP to Capitol Reef along Scenic Highway 12 with a stop at the very very good GSENM Visitor's Center. After admiring al the spectacular natural beauty of the area, the video at the visitor's center explains the purpose of preserving... More

Grand Staircase-Escalante NM is huge. But you get to see so much of it by just driving along Scenic Route 12 from Bryce Canyon NP to Capitol Reef NP. This particular route is about 120 miles and takes at least 3 hours to do. Multiple overlooks and pull-offs have been designed along the road for you to stop and enjoy... More

What an unexpected experience. Not for the faint of heart if you don't like heights. But it was beautiful. Some white knuckle driving in spots.

Scenic Byway Route 12 is amazing. Even if you have to go out of your way, add the Burr Trail Road to your itinerary. Coming from the south on Rte 12, the Burr Trail Road is on your right just as you are approaching Boulder. My husband and I toured all of the southern Utah national parks, and our favorite... More

Thank you Bill Clinton for these 1.9 million acres of desolation! Grand Staircase is not a national park with good roads and services; that's why there are very few people who visit although spill-over from Bryce is increasing. The only paved roads, Hwy 89 to the south and Hwy 12 to the north, define the area, but everything else is... More
