Beautiful area. I would recommend staying in Tropic and then travel to Bryce and up hwy 12 all the way to hwy 24 then head east into Capitol Reef. I have never seen such diverse beauty anywhere!!!! If you're into hiking, check out, Spooky Gulch-Peekaboo-Devil's Garden and my favorite...Willis Creek Canyon hike.....complete with waterfalls and stunning canyon walls...plan on getting... More

Having passed thru this area many times on Hwy 89 we decided to take the road less traveled. Coming home from Utah we count off HWY 89 at Bryce Canyon the took Hwy 12 to Cannonville taking right to the Visitors Center which was closed. Outside was a picture of Grosvenor Arch so we drove on the pavement ended and... More

We didn't do any hiking here, so I can't recommend the trails or not -- but the views were beautiful. We were there in late April, a great time to visit -- cold nights but nice, sunny, warm days. The views were terrific.

Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is a relatively new national monument that protects a large area in southern Utah containing a group of stacked plateaus known as the Grand Staircase. In the south, you can drive through a portion of the monument on US-89 from Page to Kanab. This drive will give you a taste of the monument and offers some... More

If you're going to be touring the National Parks of Utah. You have to stop at Grand Staircase NM. You will not be disappointed. You cannot take you eyes off of it. The colors of the rocks add to the beauty. No need to hurry, slow down, take your time and soak it all in.

We made a long day trip from Las Vegas to drive through the monument. We drove up to the north side and went into the monument from scenic highway 12. We then drove through the monument to the south entrance via a narrow dirt road. While a 4 wheel drive vehicle is highly recommended, it is not absolutely required if... More

Grand Staircase has to be done by driving but other people do the hike if you want to see the waterfalls up close. I recommend that you stop by the visitor center and ask for information. The staff at the Visitor Center are knowledgeable and will recommend the points of interest. If you'll do the scenic drive, make sure you... More

From a bit of research and by looking at some pictures, we had a different idea of this place compare to what, in the end, we saw. We end up driving through this monumental place, with plenty of view points to stop and enjoy the panorama but nothing magnificent as we expected. The only place we've actually stopped was a... Although I only saw the enormous Grand Staircase Escalante NM fro the road, I highly recommend a drive from Bryce NP to Capitol Reef along Scenic Highway 12 with a stop at the very very good GSENM Visitor's Center. After admiring al the spectacular natural beauty of the area, the video at the visitor's center explains the purpose of preserving... More

Grand Staircase-Escalante NM is huge. But you get to see so much of it by just driving along Scenic Route 12 from Bryce Canyon NP to Capitol Reef NP. This particular route is about 120 miles and takes at least 3 hours to do. Multiple overlooks and pull-offs have been designed along the road for you to stop and enjoy... More
