Huge obelisk with golden top in central Washington DC. There's some cracks near the top of the column from a previous earthquake. Circular queue at the base of it to take an elevator. Drove by on our day tour of DC.

It seems that no matter where you are in Washington you see this monument....or at least pass it everyday while in Washington. Beautiful photo ops especially while standing in front of the Lincoln memorial. Must see

We did all the monuments during the evening. They are open late, look great in the dark and are less visited at those times. And we never once did not feel safe on our visit

Of course if you are D.C, you are going to take some time to check this place out, or you will see the monument from the distant. No matter what, this is a building that symbolizes D.C. You will see lots of tourists passing by and locals having picnics or playing some sports.

If you just want to stand back and look up at the iconic Washington Monument, you're fine. However, if your heart is set on riding an elevator to the top, now is not a good time. After several years of being in service/out of service (including severe damaged caused by an earthquake), the monument is closed for modernization. It is... More

Great place to see but there isn't much to do right at this location. However, it is close to the White House and other attractions so it's worth a visit.

We have been to Washington, DC several times in the past 5 or 6 years. We always make a trip out to the Mall, where we see the Washington Monument in the distance. It has never been open to go up into when we have been there. It's nice, but not our favorite thing to see in DC.

The elevators can be a bit tricky and were down during our visit, so I can't vouch for the trip up. However, the monument is worth viewing in itself. It is a simplistic monument but beautiful all the same.

One of our country's important landmarks - cannot go to DC without seeing it, if only in the context of the skyline.

Amazing place to head to the top of, but you can't again. Elevator problems, lots of problems since the earthquake. When I was a kid you could walk up if you wanted to and it was kind of cool. They should open it up to stair climbers, but i guess they don't want to rescue stupid people.
