I was here last weekend with 2 friends and 10 year old twin boys. 1 of which is an art museum fan, 1 isn't. However, both really enjoyed the Portrait Gallery especially the Presidents. 1 of them went to the Art side and I took...More

Beautiful building with American artists on the first floor and the official portraits of the presidents on the second floor displayed in chronological order. I wish they had self guided audio tours. It would have made the experience much better. This museum also stays open until...More

Went to see the exhibitions commemorating military servicemen - powerful, emotional and beautiful. The Smithsonian at its international best. The display of Presidents official portraits intriguing - look out for Norman Rockwells official portrait of Richard Nixon. Before you go take the time to find...More

Whether you want to admire the majesty of Queen Elizabeth I or a more contemporary portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Warhol this is the place to visit. There are, of course, portraits through the ages, and not just royals, in a variety of mediums.

We really enjoyed walking around looking at portraits of history making individuals. We saw the hall of Presidents as well as portraits of poets, inventors, military leaders, and celebrities. A really neat place.

This highlight of this museum for us was the gallery that housed portraits of all the presidents. The plaque by each was very informative with just enough facts that didn’t take forever to read.

At the National Portrait Gallery you show up at the appointed time for walkin tours. Meet behind the information desk on the F Street side of the building. Enjoy.
