My mother and I visited the Potomac River in December 2016. Although it was cold, it was still a beautiful site to stop by and look at for a few minutes. We walked along the boardwalk and harbor near Old Town in Alexandria, Virginia.

You can see the river from either side (DC or Virginia) Although most people see it from downtown DC I like it best from old town Alexandria where you can see the Wilson Bridge and the Ferris wheel at National Harbor.

As you're traveling the city, you will often encounter the Potomac. There are many, many parks along the waters edge so great views while a picnicing. You'll also see an occasional fisherman, and we saw a waterskiing Santa show in Alexandria on Christmas!

Teddy Roosevelt memorial is located on an island in the Potomac, accessible only by foot or bicycle, and is a nice quiet retreat for a picnic or just a hike. Take a Ducks tour from Union Station or rent a kayak.

We took the Nightengale Boat tour. $15 - a great value - and beers were half price because it was the last day of the season (October 30). It was a different perspective, seeing the city from the river.

Hard to review really, its a river. The views of the Washington skyline are good and the the scenery beautiful. Taking in the views from the river can be quite relaxing and a bit of a relief from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist areas.

Nothing special. Not the cleanest body of water, not the dirtiest body of water. But certainly not the best attraction.

I took the duck and went on the Potomac River. You can feel the history here as well as listen to all that people have to say about it.
