The Capitol is among the most architecturally impressive and symbolically important buildings in the world. The Senate and the House of Representatives have met here for more than two centuries. Begun in 1793, the Capitol has been built, burnt, rebuilt, extended, and restored; today, it stands as a monument not only to its builders but also to the American people and their government.

Take the Capitol Tour. It is free and well worth it. Bring a wide angle lens to capture all of it inside.

Was lucky to catch a DC sunset against the Capitol building. The reflection in the water in front of the building is beautiful. This area is less crowded compared to the monument so makes for a quiet walk.

Make sure you go to your representatives office (next to the capitol) to get passes to see the Senate and House in session. Really interesting. All the people that worked in the Capitol (from tour guides to congressional staff to the Legal Counsel for the House and Senate) were extremely helpful and welcoming.

I was so impressed with the art and architecture of the capitol. I am not a big history buff but would highly recommend a visit inside the capitol. Our guide, Kathleen Gary, was very knowledgeable and had a terrific sense of humor. She guided us effortlessly through the crowds and kept us entertained all while helping us learn so many... More

Historic event. Very pleased and happy to be there. We've been to D.C. for the cherry blossoms and the 4th of July parade too ... DC is a great place to be!

The capitol is an interesting and beautiful place to visit. You will need to book a tour to get inside but it's not difficult to go. The art and design inside the building is fabulous

If you know 3 weeks ahead of time that you will be visiting, contact your local representative to get you a tour reservation. We did and it saves you a long wait time in line to "maybe" make it into a tour. The tour lasts about 45 min (with a 13 minute movie to start) and you learn a lot... More

This tour is efficient despite the perceived long lines (they went fast) and very well done.... Plus it is free. Learning about the US Capital, some history and seeing one of the most important meeting places int the worlds is worth every minute!
