The Capitol is among the most architecturally impressive and symbolically important buildings in the world. The Senate and the House of Representatives have met here for more than two centuries. Begun in 1793, the Capitol has been built, burnt, rebuilt, extended, and restored; today, it stands as a monument not only to its builders but also to the American people and their government.

The Capitol is absolutely beautiful. In order to get a tour, you must go through your State Rep to set up a tour. You can also visit them in DC to get a gallery pass for either the Senate or House of Representatives. Please note - neither of these locations allow camera or personal belongings. * We had a tour... We did not tour the Capitol and only saw it from the outside. However with advanced planning this would be a great tour for a young family. Very educational in nature I'm sure.

When we visited, unfortunately the dome was going through a repair and we could not see the magnificent structure.

How is this possible when they are open only during the day? We did the National Memorial Day Concert. Only we did the rehearsal on Saturday instead of the actual concert. Yes, you have to go through security. The weather was perfect (about 65 F with a slight wind). We got to hear celebrities sing and give meaningful tributes to... More

Despite the fact that I missed out on getting tickets for the tour, it was worth it just to see the outside of the Capitol Building. Being such a huge national symbol, it was amazing to be in its presence, and a real honour. You see it in movies, but they don't do it justice. It's such a beautiful building... More

A tour of the Capitol is worth it. Reserve a few weeks before you go to D.C. Seeing the original Supreme Court location is amazing and the Rotunda will exceed your expectations.

Finally got to see the famous building in all its glory. The architecture is good although it's not in par with the European counterparts. Overall a good place to visit.
