Not a world class attraction (compared to many of the museums on the mall), but nonetheless well worth a visit if only for something different. Not very large, but enough to keep you interested for an hour or so.

A lovely way to spend an hour or so wondering at the variety of unusual plants from around the world. The Christmas decorations were well incorporated too.

We've been coming to Washington, DC every year for about 5-6 years, starting when the children were about 3 and 4. We visited here the first year we came, and the boys LOVED it. We try to visit here every time we come, even if we see nothing else during our stay. The indoor orchids are stunning. The rain forest... More

Honestly, although I do enjoy gardens, we came in here just to get warm. It's not a very large area, but it has some lovely displays. The kids enjoyed an activity where they got stickers/stamps for finding certain plants in the conservatory.

People of all ages attended and it was clear by the class participation that the whole group was intrigued. Best part: it was free with a reservation. They offer an ongoing selection of classes and tours, most of... More

This was on a par with gardens I have seen in other cities. Steps from the capital, it can be seen in 15 minutes.

Flora grouped and arranged nicely. Travel from temperate climates to the tropics and into to the desert without having to buy airplane tickets or travel on four wheels.

These botanical gardens are apparently the oldest (established in 1820), continuously operating gardens in the US and are open every day from 10.00 to 17.00. The other good thing is that they are free and full of treasures, both vegetable and non. Situated at the end of the National Mall to the right of the Capitol, the admittedly modest gardens... More

This was a nice retreat on a cold January day-- green galore. The flowers can help change your mood if the cold is getting to you.
