The U.S. Capitol Visitor Center consists of serveral functions/facilities - orientation, gift shops and restaurant. And taking an up-close and detailed view of the plaster cast Statue of Freedom is fairly interesting. The "real" bronze version, stands atop the Capitol Dome hundreds of feet high,...More

This was our favorite tour of the many we took. You really get to see a lot and hear all about the history of this amazing building. Beautiful architecture, interesting stories and informative tour guides who you can hear everything they are saying due to...More

Worth the trip and the wait to immerse yourself in history. Fall and early spring are the best time to visit. Beware of late spring, May time frame as many schools from around the country come to visit D.C. in general.

Good location to gather before the tour; good café downstairs; well organised; lots of statues. Recommended.

Most people go to the Visitor Center to wait for their tour of the Capitol Building. But it is also an interesting destination by itself. There is a room with interesting exhibits and a large replica of the 'Freedom' statue that tops the Capitol. My...More

I can't speak to access if you're part of a private tour. If you are traveling with family & friends you can go through the security line when they open, try to get a "same-day pass" & take the tour. Same day passes are limited....More

Time well spent to learn all you have forgotten from school... Take your children they will enjoy it also... and probably teach you some new stuff...

The visitor center is the waiting spot and entry point for everyone taking a tour in the capitol. It is a spectacular establishment that is very well secured. Even though this is a stopover point for the main attraction, you will still enjoy your time.

Thought we we would only be able to visit the Visitor Centre but happily discovered that could also visit the Capitol itself, including the Senate Chamber itself. Brilliant tour guide who explained things in clear manner. Organisation of huge crowds was brilliant.

You don't need your passport or ID to just visit the Capitol. Everyone goes through Security screening, which is basically like airport screening. However, if you want an official tour then you would have to book either... More
Can you see the video on the capitol without being on a tour? Tour tickets sold out for my date, trying to see what's available for those not joining a tour.

I agree with my fellow advisors. See the Library of Congress and/or the Supreme Court instead. Both also have superb bookstores.
We have a group of 30, do you have room for us on Friday night? We are staying around the corner at the Hampton Inn

Just like the others, I think it would be best to contact the visitor center directly. My guess would be not, but that is just a guess
