We took an uber from downtown DC to get away from the big museums for a day. There was a lovely group of ladies serving as docents, we were able to tour the house with one of them. Amazing collection of Russian artifacts, delicious porcelain, and interesting facts about the family. Glad we searched it out. The grounds were also... More

My daughter and her partner live in DC but did not know about this gem. It is the former residence of Marjorie Merriweather Post and is a beautiful combination of home/museum and gardens. The collections of furniture, porcelain, crystal, tapestries and Fabrege eggs are wondrous. For me the highlight was the enormous greenhouse with 2000 orchids!!

Hillwood is among my favorite places to take my visitors to the DC area - especially those who have already seen many of the staples: monuments, Smithsonians, etc.-- because I never tire of seeing both the "old" exhibits and the new ones. Flowers and plants are kept beautifully in the green house and walking the grounds is a special treat... More

Admittedly there are lots of things to see in DC. But, this place is, in my mind, a must see. The artwork is amazing. The story of Hillwood and its owner is amazing as well. We visited with my second grader grand-daughter. We got her the audio tour which she greatly enjoyed. I think for young children the narration adds... More

Step back in time and see how the ultra rich lived and spent their money! Loved peeking into the lifestyles of the rich and famous and learned European history through the collection of decorative arts and furnishings. I told all my Facebook friends because this is a must do day trip from my area. I plan on going back with... More

An absolutely delightful place to visit. So much history preserved by an insightful Marjoram Merriweather Post. What a legacy she's left for the public to enjoy. A must see!

Everyone should make the trip out to Hillwood, both DC locals and visitors alike. The grounds are a mile walk from the Van Ness Metro station, set in a beautiful, settled part of the city. Go on a nice day, as you'll want to spend as much time inside the mansion as outside strolling the grounds. Make sure to sign-up... More

The art is amazing. You could spend all day and not see it all. The guides are very knowledgeable and take there time to show you around. A must see when you are in DC

This was the home of Marjorie Meriwether Post that she remodeled to eventually be a museum for her various collections. The furniture is gorgeous, every piece in each of her collections such as China, snuff boxes, figurines, Jade trees, vases, the list goes on and on are exquisite, and the artwork is just beautiful. She has a fabulous painting of... More

Hillwood is a hidden gem in Georgetown. The home of Marjorie Merriweather Post is filled with so much beauty. The tour includes her entire home. There are the Faberge eggs she bought during a bad economic time for Russia. There is a private movie room, her bedroom and dressing room, down to the kitchen and dumb waiters. The grounds are...
