We took the Saturday morning tour. Very interesting and informative but you do need to have your walking shoes on and bring some water since there is not a lot of shade. Our guide was very knowledgeable and interesting.

For years I was told not to go here because it was in the "bad" part of town. My husband's love of history overcame the naysayers and we had a wonderful afternoon! This is both a cemetery and a popular dog walking spot for locals....More

Multiple historical references state that he died in DC in 1824 and was buried in Arlington Cemetery. His last request to General Andrew Jackson was to "fire the big guns over me" in a final salute befitting a general that made the 1815 Battle of...More

This is an interesting cemetery and many important people are buried there, however, it is really not held in high esteem unfortunately. However, local people have stepped in to keep it up and hurrah for their efforts.

I like cemetery tours and the history you get when you take them. I don't mean ghost tours, which have their own charm, but tours of the burials and the lovely stories about the people who are there. Congressional Cemetery is 34 relatively level acres...More

This is a good place to go for a stroll in the spring - a good alternative to the tidal basin and so much less crowded. When the cherry trees bloom, it is a very scenic place, including a chapel and wrought iron gates. There...More

This somewhat out-of-the way place is worth finding. Lots of members of congress are buried here, so you can look for yours. For me, however, there was one outstanding feature. J. Edgar Hoover is buried here. Because I met Mr. Hoover once, it was cool...More

This is a lovely cemetery (perhaps that sounds a bit creepy!), and it's nice for a stroll in the middle of the day. The history here is interesting as well. Hopefully you'll recognize some of the names on the stones!
