Once inside security we found our way to the cafeteria (reviewed elsewhere). Adults needed to show ID to get a pass to the cafeteria. The walls were filled with national contest student artwork. The workers were extremely friendly and explained to our group what this building does for the nations food supply.

We didn't go inside, but the building is huge and also beautiful from the outside. The attached photo was taken from the North side of the building as we crossed from the National Mall.

The entrance for ambulatory visitors is on the South building, Wing 3, in the middle-ish of Independence; if (like our youngest child) you're in a wheelchair or otherwise unable to climb a flight of stairs, head down to Wing 1. Just before you turn the corner onto 12th (so on the very edge) there's a sidewalk level elevator just past... More

We stumbled upon this place near the National mall as we were looking to get some coffee in the morning nearby. One of the police officer directed us to this place. You have to go through security by running your bag through a scanner. There is a small line like 4 or 5 people in the morning when we went... More

This is the best hidden lunch spot in town - good food at a very reasonable price. Some security, but not onerous.

I found out about this place from reviews on TripAdvisor. And it did not disappoint. My family went in a little after 1 so the lunch crowd was through and they were not refilling the trays, but we still had plenty of choices to eat almost to many. The eating area had several long tables and chairs but plenty to... More

The cafeteria was conveniently located in the south building of the usda complex. It was a 5 min walk from the Mandarin Oriental. The food was extremely fresh and varied and very reasonably priced. A very filling breakfast with drinks for 2 adults and 2 teenagers was approximately $30

I had read about the cafeteria at the USDA, however, I was a bit perplexed trying to find the correct entrance, when I finally spotted the small signage for Non-ID personnel, my ID & bag checked & I headed to this wonderful bright cafeteria, with so many incredible choices, all posted with their nutritional value, (cost $7.20 a lb). I... More
