Very interesting museum. I learned a lot of things I didn’t know about mining in the old west. Also, it was nice seeing some of the old wagons that were used.

You wouldn't believe how large the museum is. Looks are deceiving when you see the museum at street level. The great surprise is there are 2 very large buildings displaying old wagons and carriages, as well as a building dedicated to the tools used to...More

We had excellent guides in all the buildings at this museum. Chuck walked us through the whole gold mining experience. Fascinating! They have a big collection of mining equipment, marvelous rock/mineral collection plus many sections/displays of other aspects of life during the mining era. Don’t...More

Highly recommend this museum that covers so many facets of the good country and the families who helped create the town and areas in Calaveras today. My great great grandfather came to the US to sell coal at the SF docks. He got gold fever...More

My companion said this was the best museum she had ever visited. It's not like the Smithsonian, but it has a little bit of everything. It is well organized and gives you the feeling you are visiting the area during the Gold Rush over 150...More

Thought this would be a 20 minute visit but turned out to be over an hour easy. The visitor center had a few items related to Mark Twain and his connection to the area. There is also a small room exhibit behind dedicated to early...More

It was okay. Staff was friendly. A little hot as there was zero air conditioning in most of the exhibits but overall a decent, fair experience.

I thought a bunch of wagons and carriages might be boring, but we had a great time looking at each one, debating which of the small black ones would have belonged to Doc Adams in Gunsmoke. We finally did find one exactly like it.

Angels Camp is located in Calaveras County, California, USA. It is a small town with total area of 9.3 km2 (3.6 mi2) and was founded by George Angel in 1849, who established a mining camp and trading store. This small town was popular when the...More

Don't miss this museum. If you "just drive by", you may think it's a single building. It's not! Several buildings are behind it, in the design of an old stamp mill, and it's well worth the visit. It's actually located at the site of an...More

I was there in October. The museum is amazing. The books include a lot of history, gold rush, the land, and a few about women in that era. I think some related to Mark Twain. I didn't buy any books, but I looked at a... More
