A great place for locals, but also for folks who've never seen redwoods, this is an easy and beautiful way to enjoy their majesty. Lovely trails for light-duty hiking. A gem.

Initially had a problem finding the road into this - there was construction going on towards the beginning of the road and it was a bit confusing. I use the term "road" lightly. More like pot hole filled one way trail you can try to...More

We adored our short stay here. Trails near the entrance were a little difficult to follow so get help from the friendly rangers at the station at pay-in. Typical to the area, state parks charge for parking. I believe it was $10. There are large...More

Even though close to everything it is quiet and you can experience the quiet of a true redwood forest much further away . Lots of trails and even on the weekend sparsely populated. Signs could be a little clearer and the bathroom was pretty disgusting...More

We really enjoyed the hike from the Porter Picnic Area to Maple Falls. The last half-mile or so involves lots of scrambling over trees and rocks, which made it seem like a real accomplishment to get to the falls. We appreciated the fact that we...More

Great for strolls or longer hikes. Many trails to pick from. Easy to piece together your own path as the trails all seem to interconnect. Flat road walking to elevation trails of around 2000’. Peaceful...but trafficked enough where you don’t feel alone. Nice picnic areas...More

There are better redwood stands in the state. However, this is near town and has some good hikes for those so inclined.

You can drive through many parts of Nisene Marks State Park, though the bigger redwoods are in Big Basin. There is a loop path next to the Big Basin Ranger Station that is set up for level walking and is ok for wheelchairs... More
