Long narrow lake off the beaten path, and quieter than many local lakes. Lovely kayaking with plenty of steep wooded hills either side. Interestingly, no outtake - the flow just cascades over the spillway as the river flows.

Directions take you right to the entrance where the dam is located just a short walk down so if you're trying to actually hike don't follow the directions to the address listed here. The roads are RIDICULOUSLY narrow, actually quite scary especially with all the...More

We walked the trail from Hwy 49 to the lake. It is a wide path which was a former road. The trail is easy and has no obstacles. The scenery is beautiful and the walk follows the river all the way. At the lake side...More

Upper Lake Clementine is blissful. Although the road down is dusty and texious, you are rewarded by a very tranquil lake that is great for families.

We went kayaking with friends to Upper Clementine Lake- which is actually a dammed up river; hence the slight current. The road down was dirt and quite torn up. That was livable, but the incline should be a warning. We had a small manual drive...More

We originally intended to launch our kayaks on the upper lake beach, but it was closed for the season. This turned out to be a good thing, because by the time we even got close, working our way upstream from the boat launch by the...More

This is a wonderful hike, and especially scenic this spring after all the rain. You can walk under the Foresthill Bridge and up to the spillway of the dam with beautiful scenery along the way. There are a few narrow spots on the trail, otherwise...More

This weekend my son and I hiked up to Lake Clementine just outside of Auburn, California. The trail is 2.3 miles to the dam with a slight elevation change which made for a nice 5 mile hike. Lake Clementine is along the American River just...More

Perfect little mountain lake. The boat in camping is very fun and the water is crystal clear mountain water. Pretty cold but good in the summer and fall. The access road is steep, windy and tight so driving in with a big boat is tough,...More

What a beautiful trail and lake, so close to Sacramento/Roseville/etc. Was so surprised to find this a 20 minute drive from Rocklin, teeming with nature! It's got plenty of different options from the Lake Clementine Trailhead, and we did the easiest trail to the Dam,...More

First of all, your main consideration should be the vehicle you own. If you have a high carriage SUV or pickup truck, either entry should be fine. The lower entrance is paved. The hike at the lower turn-off is very steep... More
