Visitors can tour the remnants of this former mining town, deserted in the late 1800s after a severe storm knocked out supply routes.

We have been to Independence Pass several times, but somehow never stopped at this Ghost Town. This time we stopped at the ghost town and not the pass! It was well worth the stop! We had an enjoyable hike around the various buildings (or what...More

We enjoyed the drive, but went up specifically looking to find the abandoned mining community of Independence. We had beautiful weather in mid-June and all the snow was gone from the trail & grounds (though still melting off the peaks above). Our little boys (5...More

Thought we had missed it, but luckily there was a second pull-in. Snow still covered most of the path down into the town. Great stop on a great drive!

This is another ghost town that you cannot miss. One of the last surviving town that you can see how they lived back in the 1800s. I can't imagine living in the harsh conditions near the pass.

We enjoyed walking through the remnants of this town. No one else was there and we really got to experience the ghost town.

Love ghost towns and the preservation of the history. Independence is not as well kept as Ashcroft and not as easily accessible as Ashcroft but the scenery is breathtaking and as I went in September, the foliage was spectacular.

Maybe there are guides on hand during the summer, but we were there the last week in September. No guides, no handouts telling you what you were seeing. Just a couple of signboards for information. Still, you can walk around and get some nice photos...More

We couldn’t find this place last year because our GPS had the address wrong. We found it by accident when it was already too late to stop. We remembered where it was though so we knew exactly where to find it this year. There is...More

Very interesting site. The guide in the old store had some good facts and stories, and the half-ruined buildings give a fascinating look into how life must have been 130 years ago for these tough folks.
