We drove out to the ghost town Ashcroft and getting there was anticlimactic with little to see but the trip along this drive is worth the half hour each way. The scenery is spectacular in the pure Colorado way with vistas that mesmerize you with...More

The view from the beginning to the end of the road will leave your jaw on the floor. Incredible views out every window but wait until you dead end at montezuma rd. The view of the mountains this high up is incredible!

Took this road traveling to Ashcroft Ghost Town. As I was traveling in September, the foliage was spectacular and it has breathtaking views. Beware of the cyclists.

Lovely mountain drive, can be amazing in the fall. Aschroft ski touring and the Pine Creek Cookhouse are up this way. Access to great mountain biking, hiking, skiing (XC and backcountry). Some areas have serious avalanche danger.

Missed the peak of fall colors. But still a pretty drive. Somewhat windy road. Leads up to Ashcroft.

Really Pretty in Fall - Good Aspen Viewing... Ashcroft is an interesting historic town in a meadow. Castle Creek is right there. American Basin Trailhead is there... so is Cathedral Lake Trailhead...

Nice 11 mile drive right out of Aspen. It has a small information/gift store with an intern in it who was very informative and nice. Short walk to see the old cabins, historical society has done a great job preserving them. When we were there,...More

The road is definitely for cars, although there a lot of cyclists. You can drive way up into the beautiful bowl at the end. Most people don't go past Pine Creek Cookhouse. In the winter, the road is only plowed up to the... More

At the roundabout just outside Aspen, there are four exits: one sends you to Aspen, another to Aspen Highlands, another goes down valley, and the fourth option is Castle Creek Road. It is very easy to get there

Beautiful and warm. Lots of cyclists. Huge meandering river bed. It leads to the Pine Creek Cookhouse, which you should visit.
