My wife and I enjoy theater and I had never been to the historic Wheeler in Aspen . . . so I sprang for some tickets and went to see the venue as well as the play. Brian Friel's version of the play "Uncle Vanya" written by Anton Chekhov was being reprised by the local Sopris Theatre Company. Great show... More

We saw John McEuen and it was a great show. It was my first time there and I loved the atmosphere, the seating, everything!

The Wheeler Opera House closely parallels the history of Aspen. The three-story stone building at the corner of East Hyman Avenue and South Mill Street was constructed with much fanfare during the city's initial boom years in the late 1880s. It fell into decline along with much of the rest of Aspen's buildings when the silver market crashed. Then restoration... More

As a regular to Aspen - I've been there done that but never been to the Wheeler Opera House. They have wonderful live music performances which included the former cast members of Jersey Boys doing Doo Wop. Great value for money - open bar and canapés and as a NYE single it was much better than dining alone.

Ten Tenors was an amazing show. All seats are great as small venue. Beer and Wine beforehand but not much in way of snacks. Just chips or candy. Cookies would be a great addition.

For the large amount of history that this building holds, it is a shame that the city won't allow tours of this place. Apparently, the only wat to see the place is to have tickets to a oerformance. Honestly, I would have paid a fee to tour it on an off day.

This 1889 Opera House has been wonderfully restored and kept up. It is absolutely gorgeous. We attended a concert here during the John Denver Week celebration, and the sound quality in this venue is excellent. There are no bad seats in the house, which we hear about a lot of venues, but in this case it is true. This is... More

This old hall was built when the town was beginning. Too bad today's instant electronic media has subverted the use of this old theatre, with lobby newly recently renovated. It seems that Aspen is degenerated into only a music town with theatre productions clearly secondary. Disappointed in the City's understanding of the performing arts being so myopic.

We have been to many wonderful performances at the Wheeler over the years that reflected the beauty of the theater and the spirit of the community. We were stunned by the recent opening of Ruin and Roses. It was billed as general admission only (very unusual) and when we arrived most of the house was reserved. About 10 minutes before... More
