Most people have never been in any mine, but this trip, right in town, takes one back in time to the 1880's when Silver was King. Mining silver has always been difficult, only candel's for light, picks and shovels, after blasting with black powder and dynamite. Very dangerous work. Now that electric lights installed one can see what the minors... More

It was really cool to see in the mine and get a good grasp of how miners worked. We were a group of four, however, were paired up with two other groups of three or four people, so there were about 11 of us total (still a good size). It was a great path - easy to walk in, well... More

Forget the glitter of downtown Aspen, take a tour of the Smuggler Mine to experience the real Aspen. Jay is a great tour guide. I learned a lot from him. Nice an cool 50*F in mine. Very safe. I loved wearing the mining equipment. Also plenty of opportunities for photos. I highly recommend this tour.

We didn't get to even see the mine. They are only open on weekends & for groups of 4 or more people. That is really limiting.

Traveling back 1200 feet under Smuggler Mountain and departing on a different level is an experience worth going for. Knowledgeable guide.

We heard about this tour through a local woman and so glad we did. We were amazed at all the tunnels underground where they mined for silver. The tour guide had a lot of knowledge and was very interesting to listen to. When he turns off the lights it is really dark, hard to imagine working by candlelight like the... More

We recently went on a tour of Smuggler Mine, which is located a short drive away from downtown Aspen. The cost is $30 per person. You may read on another site that they require 4 people for a tour, but if you ask nicely, they will waive that requirement (there were only 2 of us). We met our guide, a... More
