The drive up is great. Very beautiful drive with view apon view. We drove slow and soaked up every bit of the area. We drove memorial day weekend and its was crowded at the top. Parking and driving through is a total cluster. I had to squeeze a GMC Yukon through all of that and I was sweating it! Great... More

This is an excellent drive, not to be missed especially during fall season. Marvelous colors and terrain along the way, and blue skies blessed us!

This high mountain pass that goes over the Continental Divide on Highway 82 usually doesn't open until Memorial Day. That is dependant on the weather, so check CDOT is you are trying to use this in early June. It closes again in the fall - again dependant of the weather. Early and late - you see a lot of snow.... Independence Pass is just a short drive from Aspen and we'll worth it. Beautiful, majestic view. Be sure to take a jacket as it gets windy.

Aspen is at a dead end valley during the winter months. Independence Pass is only open over the Continental Divide around Memorial day and closes in the fall, snow specific. Definatley worth the drive over - one of the most scenic drives around, with stop offs along the way and plenty of parking at the summit. Take a warm jacket,... More

Two of my favorite drives in the country are Highway 1 in California along the ocean, and the road into Aspen over Independence Pass. No matter what time of year you go...it is beautiful. During the fall foliage change it is spectacular.

I've spent lots of time in Colorado, but never took Independence Pass until this trip. The scenery is gorgeous -- like many Colorado mountain passes -- but this one seemed a bit less traveled and more pristine. We were traveling in late May and the pass had just been opened. When we got to the top, we decided to stretch... More
