My wife and I took the tour of the Chechem Ha cave with the local farmer William who first discovered it in 1989. The cave and its Mayan artifacts are in amazing condition even though they are over 1,000 years old. The cave network is over 900 ft long and descends through 9 levels with a decline of over 100... I was lucky enough to visit this cave right after it was discovered. This was prior to the ropes being added to keep people from touching the pots. I worried about the artifacts being compromised at the time and did not touch them. I feel very fortunate that I was there prior to it becoming a tourist attraction.I was guided... More

Is not on the maps and you hardly will find a tour to go, the place is not far from San Ignacio but you could be lost because is not a sign available to guide you. We went on our own without previous announce and it was closed, we were lucky to find the owner of the land and she... More

This cave was discovered by William's dog in 1989. William manages this cave which is on his property since then. You will see artifacts dating for the oldest from 2000 BC left in the position they where discovered. You will receive a personal attention: William knows a lot about his culture, he teaches you the plants and birds around and... More

This cave is a physical challenge. So be prepared to morph into a Mountain goat. I was fortunate enough to be guided by the owner of the land. He is a 78 yrs old mountain man with wonderful stories about his mountain and the cave. He's got me by 20 yrs and bested me up that mountain. The cave is... More

I don't know how the other reviews are so positive- this tour is NOT SAFE!!! Our family is usually more adventurous than average, but this tour was terrible. The 1 hour hike to the cave entrance was treacherous and miserable, and William reeked of alcohol. Nearly everyone on the tour fell due to the mud and terrain. There were "give... More

Wow! This was one of the most incredible experiences we had in Belize! The hike was a bit of a work out which we loved, and William was a joy to speak to on the way. Once in the cave, we were blown away by the natural beauty & the artifacts. William (the man who discovered the cave but also... More

Great hike and awesome cave. It was too rainy to do ATM so we chose this cave as a substitute - so glad we did! The water fall was great after hiking (and slipping in the mid). The view was the BEST! Williams mom cooked one of the best meals we had our entire vacation! Be prepared to get muddy!

After having an amazing tour of the ATM cave, we debated if we should visit another cave. Glad that we did. Che Chum Ha is dry and very different. It is a lot more remote and requires some pretty intense hiking thru the rain forest ... especially when the grounds were wet and slippery. The cave is on private property... More

Our lodge called William and arranged the date for the tour. We drove there ourselves. It's about 8 unpaved miles outside Benque. Going towards Guatemala on the Western Hwy, turn left on Mollejon Rd just past the Chinese grocery store on the left. Stay on that road (the turn off to Arenal is about half way) until you see the...
