We walked through this very colourful cemetery and learned a little about this history of Chichicastenango with our Guatemalan host as a guide. The place is respectful and observant of the beliefs of the townspeople. The only downside is the amount of litter on the...More

After visiting the churches, take a stroll down the road and stop by to see the cemetery. It is a very colorful ,well cared for spot in the town. It clearly has a lot of history.

If you get a chance to go by the cemetery take a few moments to go inside. Due to the lack of upkeep at times, photos are better from the downtown streets to get an overall view of the variety of colors.

We did not visit the actual cemetery but viewed it from our lunch spot. The manager offered us an explanation of what the various grace colors meant and a bit about the burial traditions. It was well worth seeing.
