Some people say it is just a lake. But don't forget that it is the biggest high lake. With the vulcanoes around it it makes for a spectacular view. Take the boat to all the little towns around it to get a good look at...More

The blue boats seriously give you a jolt if you sit up in the front of them. Our driver was going fast, so that may be the reason why. If it was a smooth sailing ride, then I would have enjoyed it a lot more....More

When the sun was out, there were some good views of the three volcanoes in the area. Most hills/mountains are covered with green jungle that looked the same no matter which way one looked. The small villages around the lake do not take up much...More

Been coming to Lago de Atitlan for about ten years now. Such a great place to come and unwind. The locals are so nice. We liked it so much we bought some land for retirement there. Can't wait to be there Year round.

The lake is pretty but I can't recommend it as worth the effort. The roads are very rough, winding and severe traffic delays a regular occurrence. You can't swim and the villages are all three same, full of craft abd tourist bars etc. Panajachel was a...More

Our tour leader arranged this for 10 of us on our free day. This was probably the most enjoyable experience for me, I felt we saw a lot of the Guatemalan culture and way of life. Certainly it was crowded and full of street hawkers...More

Five days on the lake is a good amount of time. Panajachel is easily the biggest town. It has the most restaurants and shopping, but I enjoy staying in one of the smaller towns. The boats to and from the villages are very... More
