We enjoyed being able to spend some time examining the sculptures up close. The museum is cool and airy And so easy to navigate, with signage in English. The central mock up of the Rosalina temple reminds you that the structures you've just seen at Copan were once stuccoed and painted in vivid colours. An easy half hour walk along... More

The Museum of Mayan sculpture adjacent to the parking are of the Copan Maya site is one of the highlights of my visits to Copan. I have been here several times and always enjoy looking at the very detailed sculptures. My favorite piece is the bird with fish in its mouth, located at the far-right corner of the 1st floor... Wow, what a fabulous museum, with an entrance simulating one of the tunnels under Copan ruins, and then opening up into a huge room with a full-size replica of the bright red Rosalila! Some of the original sculptures are here, with replicas in the park. The sculptures are described in both Spanish and English. Well worth the $7 admission.

You enter the museum through a long tunnel, not knowing what to expect. It opens into a huge, light-filled area with a full sized recreation of a Mayan temple right before you. You can spiral through the exhibits, seeing sculptures and artifacts from the ruins. It is well worth a visit. Beautifully done.

Some of the stelae on the Copan site are original and some are replicas. The originals are usually under roofs to protect them from further damage from the weather. However, this makes them harder to photograph. The ones in the museum are much easier to see. The museum also has a full-size replica of the Rosalila temple, which was discovered... More

The museum is on the opposite side of the parking lot from where you buy tickets to the ruins, and you can buy admission to both at the same time. The museum is completely worth the few extra dollars, and is a great place to cool down after walking around the ruins. The highlight of the museum is the reproduction... More

The museum is where most of the original sculptures are located, and very well kept and with explanation about them. You can either visit it before enter the archeological or after the visit at the park, either way you preferred or your guide told you is as well impressive and a must and well worth.

The stelae in the plaza that are not covered are mostly replicas. The originals reside in the museum that is located at the entrance of the archaeological park. If you enjoyed the site and want to see more, stop on by the museum. Inside is also a replica of Rosalila, the large red temple that was found buried underneath another... More

If you enjoyed your visit to Copan Ruinas, visiting the adjacent Sculpture Museum at the entrance of the archeological park is a must see. The museum has a great collection of Maya sculpture, organised along themes like Life & Death, Fertility and Language. In the heart of the museum is a copie of the Rosalille Temple, archeologists found underneath one... More

Most of the original artifacts that were removed from the actual ruins reside in the well lighted but environmentally protected museum. The descriptions are in Spanish and English and include maps locations of where in the ruins they came from. We had Mauricio Tejada as a guide for the ruins and he joined us here to add to the descriptions... More
