This is a great walking or taxi town with world class Mayan ruins and museums. On return visits there is great artisinal depth. A few gems: Cafe San Rafael has artisinal cheeses, a nice wine selection and the best coffee in town. Sol de Copan brewery has an international cult following. General dining offers many local option. Everything is in... More

Before Copan we visited many Mayan archeological sites but this one was really fantastic. Archeological zone is quite compact so one day is enough to visit most of it but if you have time I recommend to split it into two days – one in the morning and the other one in the afternoon. The place is not crowded at... More

Amazing ancient artifacts and archaeological excavations with beautiful macaws flying overhead. The guided tour is well-worth the price. The tour guide was engaging and entertaining. He seemed to be well-versed in the lore of the ruins, but was not very helpful when questions departed from his well-practiced script.

I have been to many Mayan archaeological sites. However, Copan is very interesting, as it is possible to see many 'estelas' and sculptures. The site is not very large, so it took me a day to see everything (the museum, the tunnels, sepulturas, and the main archaeological site). I hired an official guide (Tito Ever Serrano) and it was a... More

Can't say enough superlatives about Copan Ruinas... safe, beautiful, quaint, sophisticated, fresh. Its a town of many eateries and vistas. You won't be disappointed. It is worth the long drive from the airport (although I secretly hope for a future flight option there).

We chose to have an English speaking guide give us a tour, though one can wander on their own. A guided tour takes about 1.5 hours. A colony of macaws make their home in the trees at the entrance to the ruins. A short walk beyond them leads to the ruins. Our knowledgeable guide shared a great deal of information... More

Found the area very interesting and compacted. Not sure it is worth the seven hour shuttle from Antigua as that was tiring. Our guide was very good and he showed us a lot that we would have missed on our own. The added bonus is seeing lots of beautiful Macaws was stunning.

There are lots of great Mayan ruins to see in Central America but this is up there with the best ones. It is also not super busy (go earlier in the day to avoid mid day heat and more people). Lots of interesting carvings and statues- have a guide book or a guide to explain things otherwise you dont always... More

Nothing prepares you for the site that opens up to you when you go to Copan. Our local guide was amazing - very knowledgeable and friendly. The onsite museum was superb. The colourful Macaws added something to this special archaeological site. Ideally Copan should be part of an overnight stay

We visited the Copan Mayan archeological site, very close to the town, which is called Copan Ruinas. We spent about 3 h touring the site, climbing up and going through tunnels under the site. Paying for the tunnels is well worth it. A must see.
