Perfect beach

Superb beach! Soft clean sand with blue clear waters! The water is shallow and excellent for kids. Nice waves makes it perfect for kids to surf or boogie board.

We stayed next door at the Hapuna Prince which had surf all the time. This beach was more protected and we were able to have a nice morning snorkel. Many people access the beach by walking the rocky trail from Hapuna Beach, there is also a direct road access with parking from the highway. There were many shady areas as... More

Seriously, this was just a wonderful beach. Uncrowded and relaxing. After having been on so many of the black, green and mixed sand beaches, which are stunning but have very hard sand, this powder-soft sand nearly brought me to my knees. The day we were there, the water was calm and we could wade out quite a long ways. Just... More

Another gorgeous beach on the Big Island. Have to get there early to get free parking at the hotel, Otherwise you have to valet. It's near Hapuna but access is through Mauna Kea Beach hotel.

Mauna Kea Hotel has a beautiful white sand beach. Parking for non-guests is limited and goes early in the morning (unless you are lucky and arrive as someone is leaving). If you have lunch at one of the hotel's three restaurants (pricey lunch but....) you can valet park your car. It can be windy so check the weather. In the... More

We do not stay at the Mauna Kea resort but like to go to its beach. In our many visits to the Big Island, we consider it by far the best beach. The arc of the beach is beautiful, and the hotel and related buildings are set into the landscape extremely well. Too, the access from the coastal road is... More

This beach has easy entry access to the water. Bring your own gear as renting from the Mauna Kea Beach resort is quite expensive. Not sure what to recommend for public parking (we had been staying at the hotel). Several locals told us this is one of if not the best beach on the island. Great for relaxing and water... More

We were told that you had to get here early because only so many cars are allowed when visiting and parking at beach. Once you passed the guard, it's a short drive (pretty one) to where parking is located. We had no problem finding a spot arriving late morning but it was packed when we left later in the afternoon.... More

We stayed at the Mauna Kea resort and I see why this beach is so popular. It is beautiful with soft sand, no shells or rocks, fairly protected and quite a bit larger than other beaches we visited. Great swimming, even when the waves got big, just be careful!
