Worth the hike

This is the second time I've been to the green sand beach. The first was about 17 years ago and I remembered it being amazing. Luckily my memory was correct. I would recommend... read more

We drove for hours to see it since it is one of only four green sand beaches in the world. Once we got there we paid 30 bucks for two people to be driven down by locals. If you visit let the locals drive you. It is a 2.5 mile walk to the beach h one way and it is... More

This is the second time I've been to the green sand beach. The first was about 17 years ago and I remembered it being amazing. Luckily my memory was correct. I would recommend foregoing the ride there via the locals as it appeared incredibly bumpy and at times downright dangerous with the way they drove. It you are in decent... More

We were driving south along the Hwy 11 enjoying the scenery and vistas, mango, pineapple farms. little kiosks selling a variety fresh fruit produce from these farms along the southern most point of Hawaii, in fact, the southern most point of USA. A side road indicated the beach and ended in a parking lot. We arrived at the Naalehu beach.... More

This was one of the best highlights of our trip. The path to get there isn't dangerous in anything 4 wheel drive unless you are a complete and utter fool. Drive slow and low. If you are super concerned, follow the guys in the pickup truck hauling truckloads of people. Now realize you're in a Jeep twice their size. Really,... More

The hike is well worth it if you can manage. There isn't a lot of signage on the way but you can see where the trucks with their payload of tourists are headed so it isn't hard to find. The beach itself is beautiful. The current can be STRONG on rough days and there is no lifeguard so proceed at... More

This is a rare sight, but it's not the color of shamrocks, so don't be disappointed! The trails are a little difficult to follow if you're hiking (not worth the $15 to ride unless you are super lazy, have trouble walking, or pressed for time), but we thought it was worth the 5 mile round-trip.

I have to say I am so glad we went the sand was something you have never seen before. I read the reviews and disagree with a bunch of them it is worth the time. We had a Mustang convertible so we were not able to drive back but the locals do operate a shuttle and if you don't mind... More

First you will not get here by car, you will get close enough. As soon as you arrive at the place closest to the beach, where you will park your car, some locals will come to you saying that the only way to arrive is by car. They will offer you a ride (of course is not free) to take... More

This isl one of the best and prettiest beaches in the world. However, since the locals now haul ANYONE 2.5 miles through very rugged roads for only $15, it has become VERY OVERCROWDED with people who would never normally go to this beach. The long hike secluded the beach and made the reward of the long walk that much sweeter... More
