Beautiful food, great show, food so so

The title really says it all. The setting is beautiful especially if you catch the sunset! The show is only a little cheesy with lots of history and beautiful dancing. The fire... read more

Dancers and food good; however, the server was horrible. Took our cards and ran them. When server brought back cards she handed them back to wrong people. Even handed us card for someone that wasn't even in our party. Didn't give us receipts so we checked our cards. She had charged one person for three. Sat for over 45 minutes... More

This is a fun and authentic luau. The food is excellent with the traditional roasted pig but also fish, salmon and sashimi. It showcases the music and the hula of the Lim family. Our son greatly enjoyed the fire-knife dance. What a delightful time for the entire family. Good food, nice drinks, authentic traditional entertainment all under the stars of... More

We are not fans of big, showy luaus, but we were traveling with 3 generations (9 people including 3 children), and we wanted to experience this as a family. We took the recommendation of our villa owner and went to Mauna Kea Luau. We had no expectation that we would enjoy the food - and were we pleasantly surprised! The... More

The food was excellent and for the price it was good value. I have been to a couple of other commercial luaus, including the one at the Grand Hyatt on Kauai, and have generally found luaus to be tasteless both in food quality and sometimes in content (one I attended was overtly racist). This is the best I've been to... More

Food was terrible, show was alright. Spent 30 minutes trying to get our waitress to correctly split the check into our 4 families, then our credit card was charged twice and still wasnt right. Talked to 2 different managers and now have to wait 24 hours to see if credit card issue was fixed. 18% gratuity was a rip off,... More

The title really says it all. The setting is beautiful especially if you catch the sunset! The show is only a little cheesy with lots of history and beautiful dancing. The fire dance is pretty amazing. The food however is pretty mediocre. It was cool watching them uncover the pig from the earth oven and that was actually pretty good but... More

A near ideal setting surrounded by trees but a with a perfect sunset view. The stage is small and seating intimate compared to some huge luau's. Most of us thought that was great. In this setting, it was easy to have the kids come up to dance on stage. The food was plentiful and good. Only minor gripes are poor... More

Every trip to the big island includes a trip to the Mauna Kea Luau. This year, it was disappointing. The food seems pretty familiar to what it has been in the past. There is a great selection of local dishes. Good food for a buffet. Service was quick and getting drinks was easy. We were underwhelmed with the entertainment. It... More

The luau is outside on the vast lawn of the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. The first problem was we had to wait in line for half an hour to check in for the luau. They certainly could offer better service than that. The food and wait staff service were good, but the entertainment was boring which seems pretty unforgiveable at... More

Great setting - very mature trees - truly designed for a grea luau. Food is much better than typical luau fare - including shrimp cocktails - delicious pulled pork. Show is more diverse - meant to be more participative than traditional - encouraging folks to go on stage and join performers - and give it a go. This being spring... More
