Looks like this might be a nice place to take in the beach in the summer, but it pretty much takes a beating from the trade winds in the winter and is not a place you want to go swimming that time of year. Head to the southern beaches instead during the winter months.

My wife, child and I visited this beach a few times during our stay in Kapaa. Our son is 10 months old, so the sandy beach and the rock wall which creates a protected area free from the majority of the waves was very nice. The beach park seems pretty relaxed and very family friendly. At times, one can also... More

After renting gear at Snorkel Bob's, my husband and I took it to Lydgate Park. There is an area protected by shore breaks that is calm and clear. We saw lots of awesome fish!

Rock enclosed and very safe, this spot is a good place to refresh your snorkeling techniques. Saw the usual reef fishes including a Moray eel and a barracuda that made me wonder how it got inside the lagoon.

Kauai's beaches are not always family-friendly, but Lydgate Beach Park has a rock-enclosed beach stocked with large blue fish. Even our 7 year old enjoyed snorkeling without fear of rip-tides or other dangers. There is also a large playground on the grounds. VERY family friendly beach.

Family friendly park with lots of shade trees and picnic benches, restrooms and outdoor showers. There's a small area with a lava rock breakwater for snorkeling and another smaller area for kiddies. The beaches on the island are not cleaned on a daily basis like in other places I've visited (Caribbean, Florida, New Jersey) and there are many wild chickens... More

We made a quick stop here to let the kids burn off some steam on the playground. It was a really neat structure but could have used some cleaning up around the area. The waves crashing in on the beach were beautiful to watch too.

The beach is very well cared for, it's as safe as possible, there is a lifeguard on duty too. One area is for small children and the other is for us big kids. The water in the deeper area is a little rougher but fun. Lots of fish and snorkeling. There is also a kids play area, covered tables and... More

We went there 3 times. Shade, restrooms, and great for kids. There is a small kiddy pond and larger pond for adults with a barrior. Fun fun and more fun. Snorkling, but you don't need gear, the fish is right there. Huge

My son enjoyed the calm waters and the playground. The beach had a lifeguard- this didnt seem true for a lot of the other beaches. We didnt snorkel but saw others snorkeling so there are probably some fish to be seen. I like that you wade far into the lagoon and still not have it be too deep, esp impt... More
