Well maintained roads

Easy to drive route. Roads are well maintained compared to Oahu. Too many pot holes on Oahu. Kauai roads much nicer. Drivers are more patient and Curtious.

Outside of landing at the airport and picking up your rental car, you aren't going to spend much time in Lihue. It doesn't feel like you're on Kauai being in Lihue, but it is a place where you can drop by a Walmart, and pick up some bottled water, etc...because that stuff is going to cost you at the hotels.... Lihu'e is one of the prettiest of the Hawaiian islands. Beautiful waterfalls and canyon. Easy to get around by car. Definitely worth a visit.

This is not a fun sexy town where you hang. You get in, get off, get out and don't come back till you leave.

This is not Kaua'i. It is the most developed and commercialized area on tge island. Home to numerous shopping areas, major port and airport. It is filled with many of the stores and fast food restaurants you have left behind on the mainland. To see the real Kaua'i you must get outside of Lihue.

Landing at the airport in Lihu'e makes us go "ahhhhh", because we are on our favorite island of Kauai. There are many places to stay, shop, and visit here and in the immediate vicinity. Being an ocean location and port, there is a lot of activity, tours and water sports as well. And hotels and resorts if every description. Hiking... More

Stayed only 2 nights as a side trip after visit to Honolulu. Should stay here first when luggage is much lighter due to shopping. We hired a car from Australia and picked it up at the airport. We traveled 300miles around the island in one day. Went to the west first and visited the lookouts to view the Pacific Grand... More
