Wow, I have been to Hawaii over 20 times and I have never done anything as interesting as the volcano tour with Taj. He is an absolutely fabulous guide. He told us about all the volcanos on the Big Island, about their flow, what happens...More

The snorkeling here is the best. The terrain is rocky but so worth the abundance of fish and beautiful coral! Morning is best to avoid the winds and the water is very clear.

This is a nice place both for beginners and experts alike. There is no sandy beach... only rocky shoreline.

Seriously if you want a place that you can see it all, turtles, schools of fish, coral, eel, to much more this is the place for you. Just remember that they don't want you to use sunscreen so get a UV shirt and head out.

After being told about the sharks at La Perouse and witnessing one attack a fish right next to a couple of unknowing snorkelers, we went where the ranger and the local who had seen fish at La Perouse all morning told us to go. GO...More

We visited this reserve twice in our trip with two kids aged 7 and 9. It's a bit tricky over the lava to walk to but not nothing to troubling. Our kids handled it well. The clarity was wonderful compared to other beach areas we...More

This is a phenomenal snorkeling site. We went twice and could have spent days here. The entry/exit are mildly challenging, as it is rocky. But totally worth it. The fish life is amazing. The corals are not as healthy as Honolua, but healthier than Molokini....More

What this is not: layout/sun tan beach. Rocks, rocks and more rocks. That being said, we went to snorkel and this did not disappoint! Beautiful, big reef that allowed for hours of snorkeling fun. Wide variety of fish. Parking was full when we got there,...More

We got here serendipitously by continuing further along the road than planned - what a gorgeous area. There is easy parking at the 'Dumps' with a difficult walk across the chunks of lava to the cinder trail. One needs thick soled shoes - and many...More

This beach was beautiful and large. There was plenty of parking and lifeguards on site. The water gets deep from the shore very quickly. There are not amenities here that I could find (concessions, etc). There were restrooms near the parking lot as well as...More

Great write up. Thanks. How deep was the water because, like you, I cannot swim but like the water. :-)

There were consistent rolling waves hitting the shore. The beach is rocky and sharp. You would not want to get knocked down by the surf there. We wee there between 5-6:30 pm.
