About
This natural wonder on the island of Oahu was formed due to past volcanic activity thousands of years ago. Halona Blowhole now occasionally shoots seawater up to 30 feet in the air because of waves coursing through the underwater lava tubes. The viewing point provides a breathtaking view of Halona Cove, a beautiful beach that has been featured in many movies and music videos. If you visit during winter, you may be lucky enough to witness whales in the nearby waters.
You might also want to take a tour to nearby attractions like Hanauma Bay and Koko Crater for an all-rounded experience. – Tripadvisor

- GAFamilyTraveler985 contributionsAmazing!Beautiful sight! After our Thanksgiving meal we had a few hours to spend before heading to the airport. So glad we found time to take in this amazing experience for our final day of vacation. We admired the water from the top but plenty of people ventured down below for an up close experience. It was very windy so hold on to your items. Nice scenic ride to get to this free attraction and there are a small amount of parking spaces available. This was an extra perk that we added to our bucket list, my husband even raved about the beauty of it!Visited November 2022Travelled with familyWritten 5 December 2022
- DannyWassermanVirginia Beach, Virginia4,241 contributionsWonderful geological Sight to See !!The Hanalo Blow Hole is amazing sight to see. It's on the Southeast coast of Oahu and is a must see and do. The blow hole is an area where the ocean tides come in and blow an enormous waterspout thru the rocks, etc. Whatever you do, stop by and take lots of pictures. Its really cool.Visited November 2022Written 13 December 2022

This was a great stop on our first day and welcome to the island. Parking is limited so be ready to wait your turn.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 February 2023
- Nikko GandiaMonterey, California486 contributionsWhen To Visit The Halona BlowholeI visited here and hiked many trails on 09/13 during my first visit to Hawai'i & posted a vlog! Search "Nikko Gandia Travels" on YT. Tried to see the blowhole but it was low tide. Check to see if it's high tide when you plan to visit. At least there's a nice cove on the right side.Visited September 2022Written 18 March 2023
- Brian S519 contributionsNop blow in hole todayThis whole area is so beautiful and alwlays full of cars but if your patient you can get in. - RichardFlorida20 contributionsMust seeIf you are visiting Oahu you have to stop at this overlook. This part of the island is beautiful! You can see for miles the clear dark blue ocean. We even saw 2 green sea turtles. It was really windy and big surf the day we visited so the blowhole was a blowing. This was one of my favorite stops.Visited June 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 June 2023
- Bex ISilverdale, New Zealand157 contributionsWindy and worth it !Timed our visit perfectly - high tide in a windy day with wild surf. Blow hole was working perfectly and awesome to witness. You can pull off the side if the toad and park easily to see the blue home from the top if the cliffs. If really keen you can walk down rocks to small beach below where they have filmed scenes in movies like 50 first dates etc. We didn’t do this or climb the rocks to what I believe is a cave they used to film Aquaman. Great place to stop for a picture and we saw a green turtle swimming!Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 19 July 2023
- 358stimUnited States20 contributionsA neat geological feature along the coastA pretty neat feature on the island. Off the beaten path a bit but a nice reprieve from the busy city center. Along the coast, beautiful drive. 10-15 minutes is enough to see. Some limited swimming available but we did not take part.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 2 August 2023
- GAN LKuala Lumpur, Malaysia8,774 contributionsGreat sceneryThe blowhole is most active when the tide is high and the winds are strong. Unfortunately when we were there, these conditions were absent and we could not see any waves being caused to shoot high up. Nevertheless, the scenery in the surrounding areas is gorgeous. Many cars stopped here to view the beautiful sceneryVisited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 October 2023
- Yeraldin S7 contributionsCool but just a mid stopTo make a drive just to go see it I thinks it’s not really worth it. It was cool to see it but that’s all it is. Kind of like a costa point. Park at the parking lot and see it then drive away. There’s nothing else just a little tiny beach which seemed rocky and steep to climb up and down the cliff. Not little kid friendly because it seemed deep, narrow beach and just kind of dangerous. We drove to it, stayed there for about 20 minutes and then drove to our next destination.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 24 November 2023

I’m a NYC kid so nature always entertains me. It took a while for the hole to blow. Glad we waited for the waves to build up. I find it fascinating.

Beautiful views. My favorite coastlines are rocky, so this was right up my alley. There's a great overlook with parking. One of the few free things to do on Oahu. There's also a bit of a rough climb down to a small beach area that we loved.

I could just sit and watch the raging sea crashing against the rocks and creating the eruption of the Halona Blowhole for hours. For me, it's hypnotizing and never the same twice. Truly a sight to behold. A fair amount of free parking and check out Eternity Beach while you're there.

This was my second time in less then a year. It's a beautiful place to stop. The beaches are gorgeous just after the blowhole. The tide was out this time so no waves coming in to create the blowhole.

Any more than 30 minutes here is a waste of time. I’m guessing the water wasn’t rough enough bc all we saw was little spurts…nothing like the pictures.

Is the beach accessed by the tunnel in these photos by the Halona Blow Hole? Same parking access?

That's a good question. If you mean the lava tube, I don't know where to access that tunnel other than from the beach cove. I don't recall seeing any signs for a tunnel entry point, nor for any parking access. I think the only parking would be the lot for the blowhole lookout.

You should be able to get on the next one coming, maybe 5 minutes tops. We walked up and down. Very steep, but paved road, good exercise.
