The Nuuanu Pali State Wayside is a lookout above the Pali Highway tunnels where you’re treated to a panoramic view of Oahu's Windward side with sweeping views of Kaneohe, Kaneohe Bay and Kailua. It’s also well known for strong tradewinds, forming a natural wind tunnel of sorts. It was here in 1795 that Kamehameha The Great conquered the island of Oahu in one of the bloodiest battles in Hawaiian history. Led by Kalanikupule, the defenders of Oahu were driven back up into the valley where they were trapped above the cliff. More than 400 of Kalanikupule's soldiers were driven off the edge of the cliff to their deaths 1,000 feet below.

Is worth the couple dollars to park, the view is stunning and all the wild chickens and chicks awesome. We went on a hike on the old trail that has overgrown however has amazing views to be had about 15min on the old road.

I loved the steep, jagged hills all around and the fields down below. There are a few interpretive signs to give you some understanding of the area. It was a very nice view.

To be found as the Kalanianaole Hwy cuts through the Pali Mountain range and becomes the majestic Pali Hwy, this lookout offers stunning views over south Oahu. The green mountains and rolling lawns flow into the turquoise sea and from this vantage point you can...More

A short drive from Waikiki - via stunning Pali highway. Great views & nice opportunity for photos. Small adjacent parking lot with pay machine (I think $3). Any wait for parking spot should be short - as turnover is good. Worth the visit - went...More

Okay, in all fairness it's not always cold and windy. But, it sure was on the day I visited. The views of the valley below and Kaneohe are wonderful. There is a slight fee for parking (the city of Honolulu has to earn upkeep money...More

Truly awesome views. Short and easy walk. It's even wheelchair accessible. I would highly recommend this to visitors. It's also free.

This was one of our stops during our island tour of Oahu. It was very windy so I left my hat on the bus for fear of it blowing away over the cliff. There were wild chickens roaming freely on the grounds of the parking...More

Beautiful and right off the highway. We chanced on this location and decided to take a look. It's about 5 minutes once you arrive. Costs $3 to park...

Beautiful views! It's just a lookout spot with nothing else to do, no bathrooms either, and parking is $3, but the view definitely makes up for what it's lacking! 😉 Please help keep these places beautiful by taking out what you bring in!

No admission charge, but they do charge for parking. Also do not leave your valuables in the car.
