This is an absolute must when visiting Amana. It explains the history of Amana in an interesting and educational fashion. If you skip the museum you probably won't really understand what the Amana colonies were. THEY ARE NOT AMISH! Be sure to watch the 20 minute video at the main house. Take your time going through the museum buildings. Read... More

The movie provides a good overview of the history of the Amana colonies. The museum is very small. Anticipate spending 45 minutes total at the complex.

Very good look at the history of the area, how the original settlers managed day to day life. Fun stop.

We visited this museum thinking it would be a good way to kill 30 minutes & stayed for 2 hours. Lots of interesting facts and well explained displays. Loved the fact that you could dial a phone number & listen to actual german descendants explain a few of the exhibits. Almost sounded like our Gramma Rose telling us about portions... More

Great for history buffs. While the exhibits are not classy museum grade quality, they defiitely make their point and tell the story well. Nice timing, will spend about an hour here. Very good and a must if you want to go here for more than just shopping. The volunteers are often decendents of old Amana residents and are really worth... More

Was met by very friendly volunteer who recommended the complete package tour. Also recommended local attractions which were interesting and fun. Worthwhile to take time to learn the history of the immigrants who founded Amana. A lot of history set in an attractive quiet area.

This was an excellent way to start our journey to the Amana Colonies. The 20-minute (or so) video gave us so much information about the colonies, how it started and how it changed over the years. The video alone was worth the $7.00 per person donation fee. The older couple manning the information desk were members of the society and... More

Great place to start your visit to the Amana Colonies, you get a good overview of how everything began and can visit two other buildings in the complex to enhance your knowledge of the Amana way of life. This is basically a self guided tour so you can take as long as you wish going through the Noe House and... More

The fee includes two other museums. We watched a film that gave us insight to the colonies. Several rooms to view artifacts. We like to read all of the information so we were there a couple of hours. The volunteer is very knowledgable and gave a lot of first hand information. It is a great way to spend a few... More

My wife and I are big into history so for us this was a fantastic place to visit. It starts with a film about the Amana Colony and its roots. It is quite fascinating to see how it started and is still functioning today. We went on a Sunday which meant things closed earlier. Time wise I would plan at... More
