Main door of the medina several cafes face each other, a line of taxi constantly renewed in the center. People come in and out of the old town, take a break, adjust the frame, and immortalize the beautiful blue door in a chain. I recommend to visit it

For most visitors the exodus into the Medina brings from here. The name refers to the blue tiled face of the gate. The gate is beautifully decorated with blue tiles on the outside and green on the inside, giving it an aqua hue. It is the start of the two main Medina lanes called Talâa Kebira and Talâa Seghira. This is where most cafes, food stalls and craft shops are located. This gate was built in 1913. It is an excellent place for seeing the Medina hustle bustle, people watching and photography.

Bab Boujloud is one of the some gates located in the wall of the Medina of Fez. It is probably the most beautiful gate in the city and it has Arabic calligraphy. Also it is known as "the blue gate" due to the sacred colors of Islam. Really the gate is an Arabic artwork, where you can learn (obviously if you know the Arabic languaje) Quran verses. Really an historical and artistic monument in the city.

At first I was impressed by the beauty of the blue decorated facade, but then the guide told us it was built by the French in 1915 or so. That was the moment when I realized that my house is few years older than this "false" gate. Anyway, don't be so keen to visit this place as it is a total disappointment, as well as the overrated "slum-like" city of Fez.

I visited Fes for the first time last week with some friends. Always wanted to go and finally got the chance.

Our visit was only for 2 days so we decided to stay in the old city of Fez to get a real feel of the old culture.

Our hotel was perfect for our stay. £20 a night for 2 WITH breakfast. You just cant go wrong.

Yes it didn’t have the view one would experience in Dubai or the fancy bathroom but it was perfect for us. Great staff, really nice breakfast and it was right in the heart, making everything convenient to access. I dont have much hair myself but they did have a hairdresser across the road, currency exchange next door, a shop to get drinks etc next door too and many coffee/tea shops within walking distance.

If you go and you really want to experience the life in Fes, this place for a few days will be just fine but only with the lads not family and kids.

The Blue gate is the name to Bab Boujloud gate, which is located in the entrance of the Medina of Fez. It is probably the most beautiful gate in the city and obviously it is blue ;-). I am sure you go through, when you walk around the old town, especially if you do a guided visit. It is very nice and you want to take a lot of photos and selphies with it.

Bab Bou Jeloud is the very elaborate gate to the Medina, the souk, the market place. This Gate is not really very old, but was in fact built in 1913, to replace the much older, original Gate which dates to the 12th century. The original gate is still there, right next to the new gate, and you can still see it as it lies to the left as you enter Bab Bou Jeloud.

Introduced to us as "the Blue Gate", this is certainly a beautifully decorated and designed gate/ entrance to the old town/ medina area. Lots of shops and stalls nearby, and a very obvious meeting point. The designs and colours (blue on one side, Islamic green on the other) are stunning.

So much to see in this fantastic city! But best to use a guide to get the best experience and explainations of what you are exploring. Else you’ll get so lost and loose time.. we love gaining knowledge of the history and purpose of all these gates and monuments

The large city gate Bab Boujloud is one of the sights in Fez. Yes. Beautiful. Magnificent. But there are several city gates in Morocco and in Fez that are similar. I wouldn't go there just to see the city gate.
For me, the city gate itself is not the sight, but rather what is behind it.

The city gate is not really visible in all its splendor in the throng of cars and tourists. You don't have the time or leisure to do that in all the hustle and bustle.

Behind it, the maze of alleyways of the Medina opens up - and that is what is really worth seeing!
