Do not be fooled or feel you have to be polite with friendly well meaning locals even when they specifically tell you that they are not looking for business. Stick to your own plans and maps!

We too, like many people below, were tricked by a "tour guide" who advised us that he was not a tour guide and did not want any money. Their trick is "you can't go that way, it is closed" or "you should see the tanneries,...More

Everything people say about the "guides" trying to show you around and be helpful. It's just a big scam. Hassle well if you want something from the shop. The guide will ask you for 100dhs per person when you leave. Don't give him more than...More

We were a bit worried about visiting the tanneries having read some of the reviews but I'm glad we made the trip out there. When our taxi dropped us off we wandered to what looked to be the entrance to something and were told the...More

Firstly, location: head to the Bab Gate. The final 30-40 metres of the alley before you pass through the gate proper you will see quite a few storefronts advertising terrace views of the tanneries, as well as a proper entrance to the tannery itself. It's...More

We had no intention of going to the tanneries, but as we were walking around the Medina, trying to find the Ben Youssef Madrasa (which, by they way, is closed for renovation), some locals kept telling us to go the tanneries. We ended up going...More

I agree with the above posts. The tanneries whilst interesting and rather smelly are not worth the hassle you will get in trying to find them and more importantly the sales tactics which are the most aggressive in Marrakech.
