Leather tanning is the major industry in the city. It’s definitely worth a walk through this neighborhood.

We knew this was going to be a set up from the start, so we were not phased by it, as we actually wanted to visit the tanneries, but it isn’t a great experience. You don’t need to know how to get there as you...More

This was by far the worst part of our otherwise great, week long Morocco visit. We have traveled quite a lot to many countries and this will rank among our worst experiences. We are accustomed to the tourist hustle - but this was much more...More

I have been to such places in Morocco before and it is usually very interesting and you get to support local craft by buying their work. However in this case it was not only a waste of time but also a very uncomfortable experience. We...More

Visiting tanneries make me feel a bit guilty as I am essentially paying a middle man to observe someone in a challenging working situation. We had visited the tanneries in Fez and that was an eye opener. The tanneries in Marrakech are smaller in scale,...More

I agree with the above posts. The tanneries whilst interesting and rather smelly are not worth the hassle you will get in trying to find them and more importantly the sales tactics which are the most aggressive in Marrakech.
