The place definitely not for people who are smell sensitive :). Horrible smell. My wife and kids were able to be there just for 5 mins, then it was only me deeply immered in fantastic smell! Worth seeing as: 1. I have never seen so many kinds of fish 2. I have never seen people selling fish like that (not... More

As fish markets go this is a good one to visit. With someone who knows the language and what's going on it all comes to life for the visitor. For locals it's life and it all goes on here. The fishermen come in with their catch either early in the morning or late afternoon and sell their fish either to... More

It's a Decent Fish Market with variety of fishes available. Fishes are cheap and fresh. you also have an option to get it cleaned before you leave. You need to be careful of pick pocketing which constantly happen if you don't take care of your belongings.

Kivukoni Fish Market is located near the downtown Dar on the seafront, housed in a relatively new building with a stretched hall. It is the best cultural place where one can see fresh fish catch being auctioned in old traditional style. The best time to visit the Market is around 6.00 am. You will see African men and women fighting... More

This is one of the most exciting fish markets I have ever been to, fish is sold by auction, the highest bidder going home with his purchase, you will find some fishermen or brokers on the side selling. Then there is the fried, cooked fish near the entrances, really nice, get a cocktail of small bitings... Amazing experience, people at... More

Best time to go is early morning by 7 to get fresh fish. Personally i go on Sunday early. If you need fillet do not take the ready cut pieces instead ask to cut the fresh fish in fillet infront of you. Be careful when buying prawns choose very carefully as some will be fresh and some from freezers. usually... More

We went to the fish market in the morning and we able to see a wide variety of fish. We were able to buy a small amount to taste some calamari, octupus , and prawns. One vendor even gave us a little chili powder and salt to put on our prawns! Fun place to really see local flavor. We did... More

I like a good fish market. It's no Fishport in GenSan Philippines, but you got your guys hauling fish in from boats offshore, crooked officials who don't want you to take pictures of them, auctions, scales everywhere and people who pretty much leave you alone to look around. Across the street there's a market devoted to the sale of grilled... More

I visited this fish market. The locals were quite busy there, as it is indeed a big fish market. Bigger than Newlyn, anyway.

This fish market is located in the city center of Dar Es Salaam. It is walking distance from my hotel Harbour View Suites. It is very interesting to watch the fisherman coming with their boats and selling their catches. I came in the morning, but I am told that if you come lunch time you can order the fish for... More
