This museum does not live up to its name. NATIONAL museum. It was not well curated, lights in the rooms were dim or gone. Liked the garden a lot though.

A great way to spend the afternoon. Great walk through of the history of the Republic. Several very interesting sites to behold. We unfortunately ran out of time to see all of the different buildings worth of artifacts. Lots of school children as well who found myself and my colleague very interesting as well.

The museum is in dire need of maintenance. The original building has been refurbished but is basically empty, and by the looks of it, will remain empty. The grounds are however well maintained and pleasant to walk around in. The displays on the history of Tanzania are confusing and contain very few artifacts. However the art displays, sculpture and paintings,... More

I enjoyed my visit. The place could use some repairs, but it contains a lot that is worth seeing. The museum has four main parts on the second floor: natural history with a focus on human evolution; contemporary art featuring paintings and wood carvings dealing with historical and spiritual subjects; national history, covering iron age civilization, contact with Asian traders,... As usual there was a charge for 'foreigners' however no literature or receipt provided. The museum does not have a logical or coherent layout and there is really very little to see. Shocking lack of artifacts. Worst museum I have visited and it really is a complete waste of time

The exhibition areas are limited to a scat assortment of topics and illustrations. The coffee shop that others have said was quite good was not open (it was a Sunday, which might explain why). Others have talked about the display of old cars - really! None were built in TZ. There is a section on contemporary art, which was a... More

Though not the most aesthetically appealing once you're inside, the museum has a wide range of art, artifacts and photographs that are generally well labelled and explained. Worth a visit if you like history

It's such a shame that with a little TLC and some investment this could be a nice little museum. It still is worth a visit. There is plenty of information there - mostly written and pictorial but worth taking the time to read. There's a rather sad exhibition of cars but the local art exhibition was good and the information... More
