Okay, Okay, this is not exactly Kew or Kirstenbosch Gardens. Nonetheless - I have lived in Harare for the last four years and it has become a regular oasis of peace for me in the city. Like many places in Zim - It is easy to see that it was once more than it is now. The main ornamental lake... More

We went to the Botanical Gardens recently and it was a great experience. There are many beautiful trees and plants and lovely green lawn to have peaceful and relaxing a picnic. We then went to the restaurant and had drinks and the staff were efficient and pleasant.

Excellent bird watching with lots of different species around to watch in natural habitat. Plus trees named and the whole area set out with catering and car parking facilities.

A lovely place to walk and sit for a while to relax with some outstanding trees of great age. Also a great place to run early morning. Great to admire the surroundings and have time to unwind and relax. The weekends tend to get a little busy.

We visited on a weekday afternoon. The gardens cover quite a large area (58 hectares?) in a pleasant suburban part of Harare. The herbarium and National Parks Office are also on the same site. We did not see any new plantings. Sections of the park are mown. We saw two other visitors to the park on a fine sunny day,... More

Went here with new friends from work and their dog. Nice walk, lots of picnickers. I enjoyed the old trees and plantings, some with descriptions and botanical names. Still very beautiful and, a very nice walk.

A little disappointing, maintenance is minimal other than mowing central lawn areas. Two display buildings were locked and appeared not to have been open for some time. Saving grace was weekend I was there HIFA was having a classical musical and jazz festival at the adjacent university and I could hear jazz from one section of the park. An amateur... More

After a long struggle with inadequate funding and unqualified staff, the Bot Gardens are slowly returning to what they should be. Nevertheless, still an Eden in the midst of urban Harare. An enormous range of indigenous vegetation representing almost all of Zimbabwe's ecological zones. The restaurant seems to be on-again, off-again, but the gardens are a great spot for a... More
