At Praia's main square in the southern 'Platô' is also located the pro-cathedral (a provisionary cathedral) of Nossa Senhora da Graça (Our Lady of Grace). It is an early 20th century building with a - for a catholic church - surprisingly austere interior. The church is well visited by locals and is worth to have a look at and to... More

Nice and simple church. Well kept. It is in front of the main square on the plateau. The address indicated on tripadvisor is not accurate.

If the cross would be removed nobody would suspect this being a church. Could be any building. Inside it does look like a church, with no real features of interest. It just looks nice.

The church did not have the dark sometimes oppressive atmosphere of some old churches, but was quite light and spacious. There are a couple of main wall paintings, one on each side of the church. The benches are uncomfortable to sit on, but the church itself had a pleasant atmosphere.

The church was built in 1903. The main altar merits some attention, but as in other churches in Cabo Verde the decoration is poor compared with colonial churches in Brazil which has the same Portuguese influence. One should remember that the oldest colonial churches on the island of Santiago are in Cidade Velha, the old capital.
