The entrance fee only applies to the very top of the hill-fort .It's best to start from the bottom and walk up, the landscape is delightful, and there are many ancient fortifications that you may otherwise miss - the Kings gate is excellent! It's well...More

This is the original kingdom's palace and grounds. While technically it is a palace, it is very modest compared to its European contemporaries, which make it all the more interesting.

Perhaps one of the few points of interest around, and as one other reviewer put it "UNESCO sites are usually a pretty good bet". Unlike most other UNESCO sites, this one charges an admission fee; which is approximately $3.50 for foreigners versus $0.10 for local...More

I liked this palace even more from the Rova in the city, it might be approx. 1 hour far from Tana but it is situated in a very nice green environment. includes some nice furniture and our local guide was very explanatory and spoke English...More

A good guide makes all the difference. We came with our own; and the place was overrun by school kids - but it was still very enjoyable.

I was picked up at my hotel at 9am by John (my guide) and driver and was driven to the Ambohimanga’s Palace, which is built on one of the 12 sacred hills surrounding Antananarivo, located about 20 km from Antananarivo. It is also known as...More

Views are amazing. A good guide can educate you here on the history of Madagascar which we had: Tolotra from GMT+3. But beware. It is not an easy climb to the top but just just take it slow.

The great staff combined with the fascinating history of Ambohimanga make it a worthwhile visit. It's a drive out of town to get there, but the tour around the old royal palaces is fascinating, although, some of it is a bit unbelievable. Lovely old buildings,...More

For the 'mora be' (very cheap) price of 10.000Ar as a foreigner and an additional 2.000Ar to take in a camera/phone camera you can access the only world heritage site in Madagascar. The Rova is very well maintained and documented, with exhibits and items in...More

I am just not sure as we arranged all our guides well in advance. They were local as they met us at the various reserves but we organize them through a great company in Antananarivo. Cactus Tours
