La Maison des Esclaves was a must stop. Americans and Europeans should understand the history behind the slave trade beyond the books. When you are there you learn more and get to see the actual rooms people were crammed in. There is an orale guide...More

Nice ferry trip tothis picturesque island, we had pre-arranged guide in advance. The guide only spoke French, may be difficult to find English-speaking guides. Interesting and dark history which contrasted with the peaceful life of today's inhabitants. Nice place to stroll around. We made a...More

I went to goree island and entered the house of slaves for 500 cfa. It was a must see place in the island. From this point millions of innocent people were shipped as slaves to America by sea. You may need a guide if you...More

This is a MUST SEE for anyone visiting Dakar. The museum is reasonably well organised and certainly the rooms, which are well labelled, are shocking and you get a clear picture of the desperate last weeks of the slaves before being shipped away BUT it's...More

I had just one fee day and decided to visit this island with its tragic history. I expected a solemn and dignified tour of a place which was the beginning of a torturous journey, lack of dignity and in many cases death. I was hassled...More

Like any other slave port in West Africa, Goree tells the story of millions of Africans who lives was traumatized, disrupted and stolen. The Island is an heritage site so nothing can be altered or built. It is also an artistic place where you will...More

My wife and I were the only African-Americans here when we went. It was extremely sad and sobering to learn about the atrocities my forefathers went through. I learned that I'd never be able to discern which part of the continent my people came from....More

Let be clear. I selected the max rate for this attraction not because it is funny, cool and trendy but because it is heavy and traumatizing. The horror the africans went through during slavery trade between Europe-Africa and Americas cannot be described. The atmosphere is...More

It was a profound opportunity to visit the Slave House on Goree Island. The only downside is how crowded it can be. We recommend having your tour of the slave house about 30 min - 1 hour after the ferry has disembarked -- this way...More

I got to the dock at 9AM and got to the island before 1000. I was the first to the Maison des Esclaves. I got a private guide and was done before the crowd. I had to bring my passport. They did not accept drivers license.
